Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ekiti State chapter, has suspended former governor of the state, Ayo Fayose, from the party for anti-party activities, and called for the withdrawal of his security aides.
The suspension, which was handed down by the State Chairman of the party, Bola Olu-Ojo, while addressing a press conference in Ado-Ekiti, was hinged on a four-count charge levelled against Fayose. According to Olu-Ojo, the offences include: 'That Ayo Fayose Foundation office was changed to ANPP secretariat and later repainted to PPA colour; that PDP ward secretariat in his Afao ward was withdrawn because he paid for it and changed it to ANPP and later converted it to PPA office; that newspaper publications credited to him where he said PDP did not win the governorship election; and that even though re-registration of members is still going on, information at our disposal is that he has not re-registered in his Afao ward."
The chairman disclosed that a copy of Fayose's letter of suspension has been forwarded to the party's headquarters in Abuja and President Umaru Yar'Adua.
In his reaction to his suspension, Fayose dismissed the actions of the party as a child's play insisting he remained the leader of the party in Ekiti State.
Said Fayose: 'You cannot ask the owner of a house to leave for you who is a tenant. Oni's government is an illegal government due for termination by the time the tribunal rounds off. I maintain that Oni didn't win April 14 election. He's a product of the rigging perpetrated by Obasanjo, Olurin and other anti-democratic forces who conspired to rob Ekiti people of their mandate."
'I can't join issues with the party chairman. He has called me at least four times in the recent past. He said he's my boy and promised telling me all the goings-on in the government. He said he's not sure if the government would last. Why is he going into hypocrasy? This is a clear act of double standard.
'He keeps sending people to me that his loyalty belongs to me. I'm the landlord of the party, Oni and his cabinet are tenants and encroachers. Their coming is a product of political adultery. I maintain that Fayemi won the April 14 election. I remain a leader.
If other leaders do not tell Oni the truth, that shows they are products of Obasanjo's illegality. Oni should be rounding off and steal as much as he can."
The party, which commended the House for the passage of the SIEC bill, implored the electoral body to release its election timetable on time so that the local government election could hold very soon.
Fayose has, however, vowed to demystify PDP in the forthcoming council election in the state.
In his words: 'On the day of the election, we will know the real owner of the party. I will use the people's vote to deal with them."
