Three local government chairmen in Rivers State have involved in sex scandal and as result of that, their councils have suffered neglect and under development since 2003 when these chairmen were elected and sworn into office.
These three local government chairmen in question are alleged to be in habit of fraternizing with women of easy virtue and throwing unnecessary parties with local government funds.
One of the chairmen was said to have thrown a dinner party recently, at Hotel Presidential in Port Harcourt.
According to the Telegraph reporter who went to the Hotel that day in respect of an assignment reports that no fewer than 60 young girls of between 18 and 20 years of age mostly students cum prostitutes, whose mode of dressing was an eye sore were seen at about 9.48 pm near the swimming pool romancing the chairmen.
Investigating carried out by our man revealed that those girls were lodged in the hotel prior to the dinner proper.
Considering the high cost of rooms/suites in Hotel Presidential, observers estimated that nothing less than four hundred and fifty thousand naira (N450, 000.00) could have been spent in accommodating the girls there even if for a day. This outside the cost of meals and drinks they might have taken.
When the Telegraph accosted one of the chairmen and their host to the dinner, and asked him if there was a dinner, he denied it saying, "there was nothing like dinner, we're only going to eat in the Rivers Restaurant".
But after one and half hour, our reporter wanted to chat with one of the chairmen when he came down to the hotel lobby, he brushed the journalist aside through one of his personal aides.
But sensing that trouble was imminent especially with the presence of the journalists, press secretary to one of the local council boss called the journalists and said: This dinner is a private one and we don't need press here. Your continuous standing here is keeping the chairmen uncomfortable. You can leave us and go".
Information gathered later revealed that each of the prostitutes was offered N100, 000.00, which was confirmed by one of the girls.
The girl said: "We have been with them for the past 10 months and this has been the usual place".
With this kind of extravagant ventures like this, it is not surprise that these local government councils have continued to remain undeveloped forever.
