Atiku has no hand in Rivers unity govt -AC

The Action Congress (AC) has described as flagrant lies the reports associating former Vice President Atiku Abubakar with the approval of unity government in Rivers State.

The Action Congress (AC) has described as flagrant lies the reports associating former Vice President Atiku Abubakar with the approval of unity government in Rivers State.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said at no time did the AC presidential candidate give his consent to the Rivers State chapter of the party to participate in the PDP government in the state.

The party recalled that right from the onset of the Yar'Adua administration, former Vice President Abubakar had dissociated himself and his party, the AC, from any form of participation in the unity government of the PDP at the national level and so could not have turned round to approve for Rivers AC what he had rejected at the national level.

'The AC presidential candidate, as a thorough-bred democrat, has been consistent in his stand against any undemocratic concoctions of the ruling PDP, both at the state and national levels.
'Atiku Abubakar has reached the phase of principled opposition in his democratic struggles to forestall the evil machinations of undemocratic forces to turn the largest black nation in the world to a one-party state, hence he will not be deterred by such machinations nor succumb to cheap blackmail," AC said.
The party said what the Rivers AC is doing is tantamount to a rebellion, and that the highest echelon of the party is aware of the development and will soon take the necessary action.

'The AC leadership does not support any of its state chapters joining the so-called unity government at the state level. Anybody in Rivers AC, who is still talking of such contraption, does not have the backing of the party and is doing so to feather his own nest.

'The party exco will soon meet on the issue and will make the necessary pronouncements. In the fullness of time, the duplicity of the mercenaries who are masquerading as loyal party members in Rivers will come to light," it added.
