Police kill 3 robbery suspects in Warri

Nemesis caught up with three notorious armed bandits who were gunned down by a patrol team of mobile policemen in the early hours of Wednesday in Warri, Delta State.

Nemesis caught up with three notorious armed bandits who were gunned down by a patrol team of mobile policemen in the early hours of Wednesday in Warri, Delta State.

Investigation revealed that the hoodlums who have been terrorizing residents of Warri and environs were killed during a hot exchange of fire with police.

Daily Sun gathered that the robbers, who were armed with sophisticated weapon, had approached a private taxi cab owner for a drop in the ever-busy estate axis of the city at about 7pm.
Narrating his ordeal to newsmen, the victim, Sunday Nnamani, said the four suspects asked him to carry them to Marine Quarter and they settled for N400.
Nnamani, in tears, said when they got to their destination, the hoodlums demanded for a N1,000 change even when they had not given him any money.

'When I insisted that they should give me the money before I give them their change, they dragged me out and forced me to lie faced-down. At this point, one of them (pointing to one of the dead bodies on ground) asked that I should be killed while others refused, saying since I did not argue with them, I should be allowed to go and they sped off, leaving me sprawling on the ground," remarked the victim.
Nnamani, a butcher said he decided to race down to the mobile police office in Warri metropolis when he heard some robbers have been killed, ' hence I am here and God so kind that I have equally found my stolen Jetta vehicle."

When newsmen called at the office of the commander, he was said to have gone to Asaba to brief the commissioner of police of the latest development, just as hundreds of persons were trooping into the mobile police premises to catch a glimpse of the deceased robbers.

Meanwhile, fear has gripped riverine communities in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State following sporadic shooting yesterday morning by the Ijaw militant group, just as the Federal Government has beefed up security around various oil installations in the area.

Investigation revealed that the latest worrisome development came up at the end of two weeks ultimatum handed down to Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan by the militant group within which to rectify the electoral imbalance pervading the locality.

Consequently, the youths, acting under the umbrella of the dreaded under-dogs Ijaw militant group, has also advised expatriates working for various oil companies in the area to leave as they cannot guarantee their safety now that the battle has started.

Comrade Okoro Owei, Commander of the group explained that the Ijaws are being relegated to the background by denying her people the chairmanship seat of the Warri North Council area.
'We will henceforth go all out to wreak havoc on oil installations and other federal government concern as government has refused to listen to our request. We will stop at nothing than to make the State

ungovernable until our demands are meant", said Okoro while speaking with Daily Sun in Warri.
But the task force commander, Brigadier -General Naven Rimtip rebuffed the threat and warned that the JTF will not take kindly to any group or miscreant who attempt to cause a breach of the peace in the area.

Rimtip in a statement issued on his behalf by the military spokesman, Major Omale Ochagwuba, said that the body will not subject itself to any intimidation whatsoever, stressing that, the JTF is in the region to maintain peace and order.
