'The Knife was meant to threaten him but it mistakenly plunged into his body. It's the work of the devil. I didn't mean to kill him, after all, I am two months pregnant for him." These are the words of a middle-aged woman, Kuburat Lawal, who allegedly stabbed her husband to death for daring to give him N800 for house upkeep..
She was arrested and detained at Denton Police Station before the case was transferred to the Lagos State Criminal Investigative Department, Panti.
Saturday Sun learnt that the couple had been at loggerheads ever since their baby died at birth. They often fought each other, trading blames as to the cause of the death of their child. On the day of the incident, Salishu Lawal had returned from work only to be greeted by his wife fuming that there was no food in the house.
Lawal quickly gave her N800 with a promise to give her more money when he returns the next day. But his wife had rejected it insisting that it was too small for the family. Lawal pleaded with her with the excuse that N800 should be enough since it was meant to feed just the two of them.
Lawal's failure to comply with his wife's demand degenerated into a heated argument. When things were getting out of hand, Lawal tried to leave the house to calm down tension but Kuburat blocked the door. It resulted into a fight and Kuburat rushed into the kitchen, picked the kitchen knife and stabbed her husband on the stomach. The knife pierced through and tore open his bowel. Lawal fainted and neighbours rushed him to the Island General Hospital where he died three days later.
On the course of their constant quarrel, Kuburat who is still in detention accused her husband of having extra marital affairs as he finds it difficult to give her full attention. On why she decided to stab her husband, Kuburat, who accused Lawal of infidelity, said he had told her to her face that he was going to meet his girlfriend. 'It was not intentional, I only wanted to scare him," she sobbed.
