PPA cautions Ogbulafor on one party state dream

The statement by the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Vincent Ogbulafor, that the party would be in power for 60 years has continued to draw flakes.

The statement by the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Vincent Ogbulafor, that the party would be in power for 60 years has continued to draw flakes.

Condemning the comments, the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) said Ogbulafor's dream and desire for one party state was an insult on Nigerians.

In a statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Chief Ben Onyechere, the PPA said the comments by the PDP chairman was tantamount to 'executive rascality," warning that the PDP should not take Nigerians for granted.

The party said that the days of the PDP in government were numbered as Nigerians are unhappy with developments in the country.
It warned the PDP not to misconstrue Nigerians' decision to give the President Umar Yar'Adua government a chance.

The PPA said: 'The statement by the PDP chairman that Nigeria could be a one party state smacks of executive rascality and an insult on the people of Nigeria, which goes to show that some people are still taking this country for granted, irrespective of Obasanjo's bitter experience with the third term experiment.

'PDP can not remain in power for too long because Nigerians are not happy with what has become of the nation in the hands of 10 per cent of the population of the country.
'PPA is not in the GNU to compromise any standard. Nobody should be deceived, because we will not relent in our avowed responsibility to be a check on the presidency, as that is the main ingredient of any genuine coalition government.

'The people of Nigeria are now tired of deceit in governance, though we are prepared to give Yar'Adua and Goodluck a chance to prove their mettle, but that should not be misconstrued.
'At this stage of our democratic experimentation, Nigerians are wiser and I bet you, Kenya will be a better place to live in if the people at the helm of affairs are not careful."
'Yar'Adua's team is good, and therefore nobody from any side should make them to derail with boastful insinuations."
