FG urged to intervene in Osun political crisis

The Action Congress (AC) has called on the Federal Government to immediately institute a judicial inquiry into the crisis in Osun State to stop the determined efforts by Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola and his cohorts to drag the name of the once-peaceful state into disrepute.

The Action Congress (AC) has called on the Federal Government to immediately institute a judicial inquiry into the crisis in Osun State to stop the determined efforts by Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola and his cohorts to drag the name of the once-peaceful state into disrepute.

'The spiraling crisis in the state is the result of a desperate attempt by Governor Oyinlola to annihilate the opposition through any means and create an atmosphere that will make it impossible for those seeking justice from the state election tribunal to get justice,'' the party said in a statement issued in Abuja Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.
'We are therefore compelled to, for the umpteenth time, call on the FG and all men and women of goodwill to take measures that will stop the crisis and allow the good people of Osun to enjoy the dividends of true democracy,'' it said.

AC said the inquiry should identify, among others, the perpetrators of terror in the state, especially those behind the bomb blast at the Osun state secretariat at Abere, Osogbo, June 14th 2007.
'It is generally acknowledged that the AC is a firm believer in the rule of law, orderliness and true democracy. It is therefore inconceivable that Gov. Oyinlola and the entire PDP machinery in Osun will continually seek to cast our party men and women as trouble makers and terrorists.

'It is in this light that we call for the judicial probe, so that the truth will emerge once and for all - that those crying wolf are the real masterminds of terror, violence and chaos,'' the party said.

It described the alleged confession of the lone arrested culprit of the bomb blast, linking AC's gubernatorial candidate in the state, Rauf Aregbesola, with the blast as a figment of the skewed imagination of the state government.

'It is curious that the culprit who allegedly confessed was suddenly moved from police custody, granted bail without fulfilling the terms of bail by a compromised magistrate, who was appointed to a senior position within the period of this manipulation,'' AC said.

The party decried the crackdown on peaceful AC stalwarts and supporters in the state, through collusion with security agents and terribly compromised judicial officers.
