PDP halts political activities in South-East

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Saturday directed that all party activities in the five states of the South East should be kept on hold until the 13-man Action Committee headed by former governor of old Anambra state, Chief Jim Nwobodo submits an interim report.

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Saturday directed that all party activities in the five states of the South East should be kept on hold until the 13-man Action Committee headed by former governor of old Anambra state, Chief Jim Nwobodo submits an interim report.

The committee has four weeks to turn in its interim report.
The directive was given by the National Vice Chairman, South East, Chief Olisa Metu in Abuja.
Accordingly, the earlier scheduled inauguration of the state executive committee of the party in Enugu and Ebonyi states have been suspended.

Metu, who is supposed to inaugurate the executive stated that the interim report of the Nwobodo committee is critical to the attainment of peace as well as repositioning the party in the South East.
It will be recalled that the PDP was in control of all the five states of the South East in 1999 but only two states are currently controlled by the party.

Metu stated that the Nwobodo committee should, as a matter of urgency, take a tour of all the states of the South East and give a situation report before the party can inaugurate any executive so that it would not incure the wrath of any of the factions in the zone.
He therefore appealed to party members to go about their normal business, saying "this is a new PDP and there has to be discipline in the party."
