Power project probe: PDP S'West alleges conspiracy against Obasanjo

South-West chapter of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Tuesday rose from its maiden meeting and accused members of the House of Representatives of conspiracy against former president Olusegun Obasanjo, in the on-going probe into the power sector projects executed by the immediate past administration.

National Vice-Chairman (South-West), Alhaji Tajudeen Oladipo, who briefed newsmen after the meeting, stated that the probe action was incongruous to the meritorious and patriotic service the ex-president rendered to the nation, saying posterity would judge the former president at the right time.
The newly inaugurated party executives also bemoaned the exit of the president and the former deputy chairman of the party, Chief Olabode George, from the corridors of power and declared that their impact would be greatly felt by the zone.

'What is going on is conspiracy of the highest order against the man (Obasanjo). What is happening to Chief Obasanjo is not peculiar to him. In this part of the world, the same thing happened to Winston Churchhill. He was defeated after he had won war for his people. Some years later, they begged him to come back and rule them. Why are we talking alone of the inadequacies of this man and not what he has done for this country," he said.

According to the zonal executives, Obasanjo fought for the unity and corporate existence of the country and also strengthened the nascent democracy. They, therefore, expressed their sadness on the turn of thing for the ex-president, saying most Nigerians are now calling for the head of the former president with the impression that he had not done anything beneficial to the country.

The meeting, which held at the Premier Hotel, Ibadan, also announced the relocation of its zonal headquarters of the party from Lagos State to Ibadan, Oyo State in tune with the old image of the ancient city as the political nerve centre of the South West.

'Lagos used to be the zonal headquarters of the party. We are moving the secretariat to Ibadan the-age-long political headquarters of the South West. The decision was also informed by the proximity of the ancient city to the other states in the South West. If you look at Ibadan, you would find out that it is at the centre of Ondo, Ogun, Osun and Ekiti states. It is easy for us to meet here," Oladipo stated.
Yesterday meeting was attended by zonal executive members of the party from Osun, Oyo, Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo and Lagos states. The national vice-chairman also used the occasion to direct all the zonal executives in the five PDP-controlled South-western states to go round their states and list all the on-going and completed projects embarked upon by their governors to enable the zonal executive monitor them.

According to him, this would enable them to confront their opponents anytime the party was accused of non-performance.
