Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State recently proved that preaching the word of God is not the exclusive preserve of priests and evangelists. Obi is not a known pastor or servant of God in the strict sense of it, but at the Onitsha headquarters of the Grace of God Mission International during its 2007 National Convention tagged: Supernatural Empowerment for Greater Exploits, the governor held his audience spell bound as he went 'spiritual."
Obi at the grand finale of the event condemned what he described as high level of hypocrisy and partisanship among some men and women of God in Anambra State .
He warned those involved in the act to repent immediately and give their lives to Christ or face the wrath of God.
The governor, however, singled out the founder and general overseer of the church, Rev Dr Paul Nwachukwu, as one of the few men of God who are upright in the state.
Hear him: 'This man is not fake, he is real and without blemish. I respect him for being honest and steadfast. And I have severally appealed to you all for your prayers which I know have helped us immensely."
He prophesied that the hand of God was with Rev Nwachukwu, appealing to other men of God to emulate his sterling qualities to move the state forward.
Obi used the opportunity to announce automatic employment of any university graduate in Anambra who bags First Class honours in any discipline. Those with lower grades, he said will, however, not be abandoned.
He further appealed to the church to pray for public office holders to conquer the spirit of embezzlement of public funds.
In his prayer for Gov Obi, Rev Nwachukwu said that the anointing of the Holy Spirit was upon the governor.
The cleric prayed for the success of Obi's administration, declaring that it cannot be thwarted by those he called the governor's detractors.
He enjoined the people of Anambra State to join hands with the governor to move the state forward.
