After a seeming short break, hostage takers struck on Sunday in Port Harcourt, kidnapping the wife of a House of Representatives member, Hon. Asita O. Asita.
The federal lawmaker represents Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni and Ahoada West Federal Constituency in the state.
The woman, Mrs Patience Asita, was kidnapped while on the way to church in company of her husband and children, when the kidnappers struck.
It was learnt that four men riding in a Mercedes Benz car cornered the couple's car and ordered Mrs Asita out of the vehicle. They pushed her into their car and sped away.
However, few minutes later, the gunmen called Hon. Asita to say his wife was not their target.
They, however, told the legislator to send them an unspecified 'token" amount to facilitate her release.
The spokesman for the Joint Task Force, Lt. Col. Sagir Musa, confirmed the incident.
No group had claimed responsibility for the abduction as at press time. Security sources, however, assured that a manhunt has been launched for the abductors.
