The Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), and 20 others, became the ‘Technology Governor of the Year' during the weekend at the prestigious annual Titans of Tech 2008 awards held at the City Mall, Onikan, and Lagos.
Fashola, in receiving the award, thanked the organizers of the event, while applauding the initiatives of the younger generation to honour the older generation who had braved the odds and championed the course for ICT in the country.
Although, represented by the Commissioner, Science and Technology, Lagos State, Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, Fashola said that part of the on- going programme to make Lagos a mega city is the implementation of e-documentation in all ministries of the state. This, he noted, would make official files and documents accessible and pensioners would not have to be stressed before receiving gratuity once personnel in account could access their files.
Said he: 'It is not as if the state government is deliberately making life unbearable for pensioners, but the truth is that many files and documents of over 20 years are missing in almost all ministries' records, and this is one of the numerous reasons people in the accounts department refuse to pay, if they cannot access such documents."
He said Lagos now has 11,000 datapoint, which is the highest and best in the whole of Africa, which has contributed to having an effective ICT compliant mega city.
Earlier at the colourful event, five personalities received medals for having championed the course of IT in the country and actualised the course of the sector despite all odds.
