How my husband was killed - ACP's wife

Lillian Chukwu, widow of the Assistant Commissioner of Police, John Chukwu, who was shot dead by unknown gunmen last Saturday night, has called on the police authorities to fish out the killers of her husband.

Lillian Chukwu, widow of the Assistant Commissioner of Police, John Chukwu, who was shot dead by unknown gunmen last Saturday night, has called on the police authorities to fish out the killers of her husband.

Shocked at the fate that befell her husband of 25 years, Lillian appealed to the police to unravel the mystery behind his death.
Mrs Chukwu told Daily Sun, in an interview on Wednesday, that she and her husband were was looking forward to their 25th marriage anniversary which would have held this month, without any premonition that death would snatch the police officer away.

The police chief's widow could hardly hold back tears when disclosing that she had bought clothes and many other things in preparation for the wedding anniversary.
Narrating how the gruesome murder was carried out, the mother of five recalled that on the fateful day, she was busy preparing the children, who were to go back to their various colleges, when the husband switched on the generating set.
According to her, she was about going to have a shower when the generating set went off and the building was engulfed in darkness.

Moments later she heard her children screaming: 'Daddy! Daddy!!" and dashed out of the bathroom almost naked.
Mrs Chukwu said she sighted three strange persons hurrying out of the compound and as she came outside, her children were trying to lift their father from the ground.
She said the children told her he was shot by the men and efforts were quickly made to rush him to a nearby hospital.

The ACP, who was said to have been shot in the back by the gunmen, was, according to the widow, saying: 'I'm dying, I'm dying" and pleading that that help should be sought quickly to save his life. He was confirmed dead at the hospital.

She described the deceased as loving, caring and accommodating.
'It is left to the police to unravel the mystery surrounding the death of my husband," the widow said.
Mrs. Chukwu said there was a song she composed which she would have sung to her husband on the day of their wedding anniversary in the church. She regretted that she would never do that again.
The ACP will be buried on May 3, 2008.
