Over 40 armed robbers stormed two first generation banks in Lagos yesterday, killing two people and carting away unspecified amount of money.
The dare devil robbers led by a woman came to the banks in Badagry area at about 10a.m armed with Ak 47 and chain rifles.
They allegedly arrived the scenes in a coaster bus and one infinity jeep, shooting sporadically to scare people away.
Daily Sun gathered that policemen from Badagry Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel during which a policeman was shot and his rifle taken away. Also, one of the robbers, who drove the infinity jeep was shot dead while trying to escape and his corpse taken away by his colleagues.
Though the robbers succeeded in taking the corpse away, the police recovered the abandoned jeep.
Meanwhile, as at 6p.m, residents in the area were yet to recover from the shock as shops owners have refused to open for business.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Frank Mba, said the strategy put in place by the command is working as the robbers have been pushed out of Lagos.
He said it was in their desperation to escape that they started shooting sporadically and escaped to Ogun State.
