The Eleme Unit Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has flagged-off its easter patrol operations with major safety activities.
The Eleme Unit Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has flagged-off its easter patrol operations with major safety activities.
The operations led by the Unit Commander, Mr Bisi Kazeem in company of the Caretaker Chairman of Eleme Local Government, Mr Josiah Olu, saw officers and men of the command checking and apprehending drivers of overloaded vehicles, dropping excess passengers and penalizing erring drivers.
The operations also include distribution of safety handbills and leaflets to motorists and traffic control for easy traffic flow.
In an interview, the chairman, Eleme Local Government said he decided to partner with the FRSC to ensure safety of his people during the Easter and above all, because of his belief in road safety as a panacea for accident.
In his remark, the unit commander advises passengers not to allow themselves to be overloaded as henceforth they would be dropped at sight.
He advised passengers to be active and not passive as passengers die in accidents more than drivers.
'You can stop the driver before he kills you," he said.
On partnership with the caretaker chairman, he said road safety is everybody's business. The operation will span through April 19 to 24.
