Lamido, Nigerien gov forge closer tie

Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State and his visiting counterpart from the state of Dosso in Niger Republic said they have broken the backbone of colonialism by conducting official business in Hausa.

Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State and his visiting counterpart from the state of Dosso in Niger Republic said they have broken the backbone of colonialism by conducting official business in Hausa.

The two governors, who were exchanging views during a courtesy visit by the Nigerien governor on his Nigerian counterpart at Dutse, Jigawa State capital, said they have taken the first step in removing the colonial barriers against African brotherhood.

Governor Lamido said in response to the remarks by the visiting governor that they would have spoken in two different European languages and waited for someone to translate from English to French and vice versa if they did not speak in Hausa.

Lamido said the Republic of Niger has been an ally of Nigeria in all ramifications, including her support to Nigeria during the Nigerian civil war, adding that although, Jigawa and Dosso were only states in Nigeria and Niger respectively, there were common issues within the scope of their jurisdiction.
According to Lamido, such issues are the contiguous border dimensions of Fulani herdsmen and Hausa farmers conflict in Nigeria, disease transmission and desert encroachment.

The Governor of Dosso in Niger Republic, Mallam Ibrahim Belko, had earlier told Governor Lamido that Nigeria and Niger have no alternative to promoting common ties in the overall interest of their own people and the two nation-states.

He said his visit to Nigeria was in support of that realisation.
The Nigerien governor arrived Jigawa on Wednesday at the head of a 78 member delegation made up of government officials, human rights activists, women leaders and members of opposition parties in the state of Dosso.

It would be recalled that Governor Lamido paid a visit to Dosso in Niger Republic two weeks ago basically to witness their national wrestling competition.

Sokari doesn’t mean joy. Joy is Biobela. Go to the village and ask the meaning of the name.
