PDP to implement Ekwueme's recommendations

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it will revisit and accordingly implement the recommendations of the Alex Ekwueme-led national reconciliation committee.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it will revisit and accordingly implement the recommendations of the Alex Ekwueme-led national reconciliation committee.

The Ekwueme report, among other things, recommended the return of the founding fathers as well as amendment of the party's constitution as a way out of the party's perennial crisis.

This was the high point of the party's maiden National Working Committee (NWC) meeting that held in Abuja Tuesday.

National Publicity Secretary of the party, Professor Rufai Ahmed Alkali told a news conference in Abuja that the new team's resolve to reconcile and bring back aggrieved members of the party will know no bounds.

He, however, refused to state categorically whether the reconciliation arm will be stretched to include such former party members as former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, former PDP chairman, Audu Ogbeh, among others. He explained that he will not release all the party's strategies in going about the reconciliation 'but it is a matter of grave concern to us."

'We will explore every method and means. We will use every method. Right now we are studying the Ekwueme report and I can assure you we will reach out to everybody that matters," Professor Alkali stated when asked to say specifically whether Atiku, Ogbeh and others will be contacted.

On the controversy surrounding the debt profile handed over to the new executive by the Ahmadu Ali-led team, the PDP spokesperson insisted that the hand-over documents are still being studied.
Professor Alkali, however, reiterated the loyalty of the party to President Yar'Adua and that the party will ensure a harmonious relationship between the executive and the legislature.

He also expressed confidence that the PDP will win the by elections in Kogi and Adamawa states, respectively, adding that the party will hold a rally on the 25th of this month with a view to giving support to their party members in Kogi ahead of the March 29 election in the state.
