Those who were shocked could not fathom why a medical doctor would want to ignore what others regard a lucrative practice though satanic.
Nworah who is now the chairman of the Umunya Apparition Committee in an interview with Daily Sun recently said he had a divine instruction to stop abortion, warning those indulging in the act to desist.
My hospital and abortion
If you look at my gate here, you will see the warning clearly written: 'No abortions Here," it is not a joke; I don't support abortions. Yes, you asked a very tactical question, what will make me carry out an abortion. I don't wish that, I don't wish to find myself in such a fix. I would very much like to save life, but what I will do since I am so much opposed to abortion, is to transfer the person to another hospital. Not because I wouldn't like to do it to save her life, but if it is done here, with my anti-abortion stand well known in the state, if not in the country, it will be a bad news.
My grouse with abortion
If I say I do not know of abortion before, that would be wrong, that is not true. During training in Britain, we watched abortions being done, it is part of the training; you can't avoid it. But I noticed that Irish doctors and British doctors have different attitude to it. You can hardly, if you are working under Irish doctors or Irish consultants, you cannot see abortions on his list; you can see evacuation. You know in abortion, we have three, four classifications. Threatened abortion, you will try to save it. Let's get it very clear, if the person comes here for example with threatened abortion, that is, she has not aborted, and if the situation is such that the pregnancy can still be saved, we shall do our best. Now, if we found out that we could not save it, we try and clean up the womb, if she wants it, that one is not abortion.
Why I shun abortion
I'll tell you a story. When I came back from Britain, for the first six months, we were taught in Britain that any abortion you do below three months is no abortion, it's no killing. When I was at Onitsha, I started at General Hospital, Onitsha and one day, I had a dream; some children with clubs chasing me in a dream. I said, what does that mean? So I came down here, I came for a weekend; I went to Father Ekwu, the late Father Ekwu, a very pious man. I told him my problem. I said, father why must children chase me with clubs and sticks in a dream?
He said doctor it might have to do with the past. 'I said, look, in Britain; they have five standards under which you can do an abortion one of which is that it must be under three months. It's not like America where you can deliver and curl. Where the woman says it's her body, she has right over her body, when the child is going to be delivered in an hour, it is killed before it is delivered.
It is still abortion.
I remembered I had an encounter with the Pope who prayed for me in an anwer to a question. Then I was still doing my specialty in London. I had not even come back to Nigeria.
My case in Rome
When they took my case to Rome, it lasted for three months before they came back with an answer.
IVCD decision
Another case was that of insertion of Intra Uterine Contraceptive Device (IVCD) that you put in the woman's womb to prevent pregnancy. By the time I left Britain, it was debatable whether it actually prevents pregnancy.
So, I've been under the impression that perhaps if you inserted the IVCD, it will change the whole environment, so that fertilization will not be able to take place. At Umunya Apparition Centre I was called to be the chairman the Umunya Apparition Committee. Then Mary Cynthia was with her team of prayer group and my own team of administrative group called the Apparition Committee. I never knew Mary Cynthia before. We were said to have been called by the Blessed Virgin Mary, and we started working. That was in 1996 when she was coming to Umunya to deliver messages.
In one of her messages, she warned doctors against IVCD. I couldn't understand what the lady was talking really.
Then a week later, she invited me because she had private messages me. Before my invitation, she used to invite persons involved, telling them what to do, what not to do, or what's gone wrong or right. So, I was invited and she went into a trance, which completely change my perception, leading to determination not to have anything to do with abotion.
