Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel has said that the judgment would prove skeptics wrong that the gubernatorial election of the April 14, 2007 was fraudulent.
Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel has said that the judgment would prove skeptics wrong that the gubernatorial election of the April 14, 2007 was fraudulent.
Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary Mr. Wale Adedayo, Daniel said: 'We welcome this development, which will enable us to prove skeptics wrong that the gubernatorial election of 2007 in Ogun State was fraudulent.
'We reaffirm our unflinching faith in Nigeria's young democracy, especially the judiciary, which we believe is one of the key pillars of an enduring democracy."
He urged all residents of the state, 'to be law abiding and to keep faith with our firm resolve that it is through the instruments of due process, not sentiments or mob rule that Nigeria will continue to be governed."
Senator Amosun, while, reacting to the ruling said he had always held our judiciary in high esteem.
His words: 'The judiciary is the last hope of the common man. Without the judiciary, Nigerians would have witnessed another Kenya on our hands. We have confidence in the judiciary, we believe in the rule of law and we have an unshaken respect for the judiciary."
In his reaction, the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) Director of Organisation in the state, Mr. Deji Kalejaiye said, 'our reaction is that we are not bothered. We are not affected. The earlier judgment at the tribunal was in our favour on technical ground which is admissible in judicial norm. We are also ready for the continuation of the case," he declared.
The state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Kayode Samuel, who also issued a separate statement saluted the judgments, saying that it was the wish of the state government that matter be disposed off once and for all.
According to him, 'Otunba Gbenga Daniel and his government are unfazed by the judgment and are indeed happy that the case is going for full trial. We are sure that when we meet in court again we shall acquit ourselves creditably well. We are able and ready to defend the sacred mandate of the people of Ogun State that was freely and overwhelmingly given to Otunba Gbenga Daniel on April 14, 2007.
Chairman of the Action Congress(AC), one of the opposition parties in the state, Alhaji Tajudeen Bello said that the judgement was a good sign of what to expect of the nation's judiciary and democracy.
'We remain resolute and confident the judiciary will not disappoint Nigeria. We will not relent in our bid to see that the sham election conducted in 2007 is nullified," he said.
