Aminu 'll kill PDP in Adamawa, party chieftain alerts

An aspirant to the chairmanship position of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State, Hon Halilu Domdaz, says that the activities of Senate Committee Chairman on Foreign Affairs, Sen. Jubril Aminu may spell death for the ruling party in the state if urgent steps are not taken by genuine stakeholders.

The warning is coming against the backdrop of protests by major PDP leaders in the state over alleged acts by Aminu to block aspirants to party offices from contesting the last PDP congresses in favour of his stooges, who were selected to run the affairs of the party. Four aspirants into the state executive offices of the party had, at a press conference in Yola on Monday, faulted non- conduct of state and ward congresses as done in other states, describing the development as a ploy to entrench illegitimate leadership.

The development has already led to a litigation with a high court in Yola restraining members new state executive of the party from parading themselves as the party's officials.
Spokesman for the aggrieved aspirants, Hon. Domdaz, who spoke to Daily Sun, declared that himself and three others namely , Mr. Richard Metekal Joseph, Hon. Ahmadu Buba and Alhaji Adamu Gala, and other party leaders were opposed to the unconstitutional approach of running the affairs of the party, especially the non-conduct of the party congress.

Domdaz specifically faulted the way the PDP linkman in the state, Senator Aminu, allegedly single-handedly wrote the names of party executives and sent such to the party headquarters in Abuja as products of a congress that never held.

This, they said, denied genuine party members the benefit of participatory democracy.
He alleged that the group of aspirant for PDP executive council had approached Aminu, when they heard he was plotting to impose candidates, to prevail on him to follow the path of honour, but he deceived them.

Domdaz alleged that official nomination forms were hoarded and candidates selectively handpicked and endorsed.
He faulted the situation in which the governor of the state hails from the same ward as the state party chairman and of the same tribe (Fulani).

Meanwhile, a High Court in Yola has restrained the 11-man executive committee from parading itself as lawful officials of the party, pending determination of a suit filed by four members of the party in the state.
The four members of the party, Hon. Halilu Domdaz, Mr. Richard Matekail Joseph, Hon. Ahmadu Buba, and Alhaji Adamau Gala, had sought for interim order restraining the executive from parading themselves severally and jointly as state executive committee of the PDP pending the hearing and determination of motion on notice.

The applicants had prayed the court not to recognize the 1st, 3rd to 11th respondents as the party officials pending the determination of the suit before the court.
The court has fixed March 25, 2008, for hearing of the substantive application.
