The new national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Vincent Ogbulafor says his emergence as leader of Africa's largest political party was an act of God.
He said: 'That we are here is destined by God. Indeed, I never expected to be the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party. I never expected it. I never printed posters, I never made a single advert, but here I am serving the party. Therefore, anything I can do I better do, it now because there may not be another opportunity."
Ogbulafor spoke in Abuja on Wednesday when he received members of the 1999/2003 federal executive council in his office.
While saying he was aware of the internal squabbles that has confronted the party for a long time, the PDP boss vowed his executive will make a difference.
'We promise you that this executive committee is going to be a different executive, one that will respect you and make you happy because without you we cannot stand."
He reiterated his promise to make sure the estranged founding fathers of the party are brought back to the fold, adding that the electoral fortunes of the PDP, under his leadership will be improved.
He, therefore, urged the former FEC members to give president Umaru Yar'Adua all the necessary support he will require.
Ogbulafor had on Tuesday pledged a 100 percent support for the president when he formally took over from former chairman, AHmadu Ali.
Led on the visit by former Minister of Education, Professor Tunde Adeniran, the group promised to give its support to Ogbulafor.
Those who attended Wednesday's courtesy call include former FCT Minister, Alhaji Abba Gana, Mustapha Bello, Isaiah Balat, Damishi Sango, Ime Okopido, Precious Ngelele and Lawrence Nwurukwu.
They later presented Ogbulafor with a giant congratulatory card, which was signed by all the former ministers, including Prof Jerry Gana and Mallam Adamu Ciroma.
