The police high command has announced a major shake-up at the top echelon of the force with 13 Assistant Inspectors General of police (AIGs) moved to various command positions. Three AIGs, however, retained their present offices.

The police high command has announced a major shake-up at the top echelon of the force with 13 Assistant Inspectors General of police (AIGs) moved to various command positions. Three AIGs, however, retained their present offices.

Those affected included three commissioners of police elevated to the position of AIG in an acting capacity, but have been directed not to wear the rank of AIG while performing their new assignments until the Police Service Commission (PSC) ratifies the postings.

Police Force Public Relations Officer, Agberebi Akpoebi (ACP), said in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja, that the three CPs are Mohammed Abubakar, who has been moved from the Lagos command to the Zone 2 headquarters also in Lagos as acting AIG; Ibrahim Machi, CP Training Department at the Force Headquarters Abuja to Zone 12, Bauchi as AIG, and Muktar Abbas, who moves from the Nigerian Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Jos, to Kano as Commandant of the Police Academy (Polac).

Also approved by the Inspector General of Police, Mike Okiro, is the retention of three AIGs in their present offices. They are Lady Ivy Okoronkwo, AIG Zone 7, Abuja; John Ahmadu, AIG Zone 10, Sokoto, and Ganiyu Dawodu, AIG Zone 1, Kano.

The Force Secretary, AIG Olusegun Efuntayo, is now to head the Zone 9 command with headquarters at Umuahia, the Abia State capital, and has been replaced by AIG Yusuf Haruna, who, hitherto, took charge at the Zone 12 command, Bauchi. AIG Gasali Lawal moves from NIPSS to Zone 4, Makurdi, while Isreal Ajao has been redeployed as AIG Intelligence, from the Zone 2 Lagos command, where he had held sway.

Other AIGs affected are Declan Uzoma, from NIPSS to Zone 3, Yola; Olatunji Alapini -Staff College Jos, to Zone 8 Lokoja, Emmanuel Anuniru -Commandant, Police Academy to Zone 11, Oshogbo, Azubuko Udah -Zone 5, Benin to Zone 6, Calabar, and Hafiz Ringim -from NIPSS to Police Staff College, Jos, as Commandant.
