Accountant, four others arrested for cocaine trafficking


Officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested an accountant and four others for drug trafficking at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos.

Officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested an accountant and four others for drug trafficking at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos.

The suspects are Emmanuel Emeseh, Gillis Harry Kute, Dorris Clement Eniye, Jeffery Obianika and Kelvin Ojigbo. They were arrested while trying to smuggle drugs out of the country. All the suspects ingested the drugs, except one that inserted the drug in his anus.

Emeseh, 31-year-old accountant was on his way to Italy when he tested positive for ingesting 71 wraps of substances that proved positive for cocaine. The drug weighed 1.069 kilogrammes. He holds a Higher National Diploma in Accounting of the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi. In 2004, Emmanuel travelled to Reggo Emilli in Italy where he works in a factory. According to him, 'I came home to see my wife who put to bed when a friend persuaded me into taking the drugs for 1,500 Euro." Emeseh is a native of Orogun in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

A 37-year-old street hawker of Gala named Gillis Harry Kute was also nabbed on March 1, 2008 for ingesting 82 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.468 kilogrammes.

His arrest took place at about 8.30pm during the boarding of passengers on Turkish airline to Turkey. Gillis told officers that his sponsors told him that what he ingested was gold. 'This na my first time to see cocaine. The man tell me say na gold," he said, adding that he was promised the sum of 3,000 dollars for a safe delivery. Gillis is from Udi in Nkanu Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Also cooling her heels at the NDLEA office is Doris Clement Eniye, 29-year-old housewife. Doris ingested hard drugs that proved positive for cocaine. She was caught on March 7, 2008 while traveling to Milan in Italy in Alitalia flight. She hails from Ogharafe town in Delta State but is based in Madrid, Spain with her Spanish husband. Doris in her statement said she decided to traffic in hard drugs for 3,000 Euro to assist her parents and younger ones here in Nigeria.

A 36-year-old refrigerator dealer, Jeffery Obianika said that 3,000 Euro promised was irresistible for him because of the financial difficulties he is facing. He was arrested on March 6, 2008 at about 9pm while trying to board a KLM flight to Düsseldorf in Germany. Jeffery ingested 66 wraps of cocaine. He is a native of Agolo town in Aniocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Kelvin Ojigbo, 29-year-old motor spare parts dealer based in Spain for over 10 years claimed to be a drug addict. He was found to have inserted eight wraps of cocaine in his anus. Kelvin was nabbed on March 5, 2008 on his way to Madrid. He said that he bought the eight wraps for 115,000 naira for his personal use in Spain. Kelvin hails from Alaja town in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.
