Election tribunal: Cleric faults Yar'Adua's victory

Lagos cleric, Prophet Anthony Nwoko, has faulted the verdict of the Presidential Election Tribunal, which threw out the petitions filed against the victory of President Umaru Yar'Adua and vice President Jonathan Goodluck by former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari and ex-vice President Atiku Abubakar.

According to him, the position of the tribunal does not reflect the true picture of what happened during the April 2007 elections.
In his opinion, 'the election ought to be annulled because of the massive rigging and illegularities that took place. The nation should pray and seek the face of God to show us the way forward because those in-charge of the affairs of Nigeria are groping in the dark."

Waxing philosophical, Prophet Nwoko maintained: 'God's thoughts and ways are different from what the tribunal is saying. The tribunal has given worldly judgment which is not from above. This nation is in the hand of God though government is taking us for granted. They don't want to go the way of the Lord, but the ultimate judge will prevail at the end of the day. No one can battle with the Lord. Nigeria will rise and shine in due season."

Part of the injustice going on in Nigeria, the cleric averred, is the marginalisation of Ndigbo in the scheme of things. He said that on account of this, God is set to lift the land of the rising sun to its proper place.
His words: 'The Igbo are being relegated to the background and because of this injustice, God is set to do a new thing for Ndigbo now.

Government should not write-off the Biafran renaissance because the stone the Nigerian builders rejected would become the headstone that will lead to the emergence of the promised land, which is the New Jerusalem. I want Chiefs Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu and Ralph Uwazuruike to hear this message."

Prophet Nwoko said that the nation had rebelled against God due to the elevation of tribalism in the land and rejection of His will. He added that the final liberation of Ndigbo is at hand because God has decreed it.
