Alarm raised by bewildered people attracted the attention of a nurse, Mrs Florence Ebuluku, a staff of Regina Moses Hospital, in Mushin, who came to the rescue of the baby.
Coincidentally, the nurse and her husband, Pastor Mathew Ebuluku belong to a non-governmental organisation (NGO), Leading Light Mission, whose area of operation include rescuing abandoned babies as well as assisting rape and armed robbery victims, especially along the stretch of Oshodi/Iyana Ipaja expressway.
Mrs Florence confirmed to Daily Sun that: 'some food vendors around this area came to inform me that a baby has been abandoned along the rail line," adding that when she got to the spot, the poor baby was struggling for life with blood dripping from his umbilical cord.
Speaking with Daily Sun later, Pastor Mathew Ebuluku explained that those who went for his wife, Florence, were aware that she belonged to an organization that specialized in such an operation, disclosing that staff of Chamagne Foundation, which worked directly with the police, were on their way to pick the baby.
'Immediately we saw the baby, we took him home and cleaned him up. I then called in the Aids Action Manager for Ikeja Local Government Area under our organization, who gave us the phone number of Chamagne Foundation, which is directly in charge of abandoned babies," the cleric disclosed, adding: 'Our presence at the spot of discovery is to have the history of the baby."
Speaking further, Pastor Ebuluku said 'Leading Light Mission is a grassroots NGO rendering humanitarian services in collaboration with government agencies," revealing, 'our operations involve picking and treating women who are rape victims as well as victims of armed robbery attacks."
