Five police officers from the highway patrol team operating in Anambra State were arrested on Sunday morning at the Asaba end of the Niger bridge by a special squad of the Nigeria Police while extorting money from motorists.

Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Udom Ekpoudom expressed surprise that the erring cops whom he paraded before newsmen on Monday left their area of operation in Anambra, crossed to Delta State and mounted an illegal checkpoint to rip off motorists.
The commissioner who gave the names of the mobile policemen as Inspector Emmanuel Udoh, Sgt. Ita Udoh, Sgt. Boniface Uguru, Sgt. Wilfred Oyokeh, Sgt. Yahaya, also displayed a sum of N16,220 they had collected early Sunday morning.
Ekpoudom told newsmen that he was preparing to go to church when someone called him on phone that some policemen were busy collecting money from motorists at the end of the Niger bridge at Asaba.
The Police Commissioner said he did not know the caller and the caller did not disclose his name, adding that he has to send his officers that rounded up the culprits.
He said that the investigations would determine whether they will be charged to court
