Saturday Sun has it on good authority that two kingpins were moved to the Ondo State Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) where they are telling police all they know about recent attacks at fishing trawlers in which several trawler men have been killed.
Monday Mabanmi and Jesiri Dunapo, both from Igbokoda in Ilaje Local Government Council in Ondo State were arrested after they disagreed over the sharing of the proceeds from their operations which prompted Jesiri to report to local vigilante youths popularly called Gwama youths.
An impeccable source said that it was the Gwama youths that apprehended Monday, and handed both suspects over to the Divisional Police Station in Igbokoda. Also deposited with the Police was a Toyota Camry belonging to the suspects.
The Youths' leader whose name was not available at press time was said to have received Jesiri's complaint and invited Monday. On arrival in his new Toyota Camry, Monday resisted arrest but was later over-powered by the youths who called in the Police.
It was gathered that after Jesiri made confessional statement about piracy operations, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Mr. Peter Ezenwoke (SP) recommended that the case be transferred to SIB, Akure for thorough investigations. But surprisingly his driver said to be partner in crime is allowed to enjoy his freedom.
Nigeria Trawler Owners Association recently withdrew their fishing vessels from operation in protest over the incessant attacks and killing of their crew by sea pirates believed to come from the Niger Delta axis of Nigerian coastal waters.
When contacted, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO),Mr Adeniran Aremu(ASP) confirmed the incident.
