In order to conduct a free and fair election that would be acceptable to majority of Nigerians, the Federal Government has been enjoined to change the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), following the indictment of the body by some election tribunals over her illegal disqualification of some candidates at the April 2007 general elections.

The vice presidential candidate of National Action Council (NAC) at the April 2007 election, Mrs Eghenayheore Dele Agi, who made this call, stressed that the decision to cancel the elections based on the wrong judgement of INEC has eroded the confidence Nigerians have in the leadership of INEC to conduct a free and fair election.
She added that it is morally wrong for Iwu to conduct the fresh election because the decision of INEC to exclude some candidates suggests bias and this has attracted wide spread condemnation from many Nigerians.
Mrs Agi noted that a change in the leadership of INEC will truly translate the dream of president Yar'Adua to follow due process into reality, explaining that INEC did not follow due process before excluding thee candidates and there is no guarantee that, that body, under the leadership of Iwu would follow due process in the forth coming election.
She commended the judiciary for its boldness in delivering these landmark decisions at the various tribunals and courts across the country, adding that this would strengthen our democracy and encourage more decent people to join politics and present themselves for election into various offices.
