Saula's murder: Ogun NURTW boss, 8 others docked


Nine persons, including the Chairman of Ogun State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Tajudeen Ibikunle, have been arraigned at a Yaba Magistrate's court for alleged involvement in the murder of chairman of Lagos Council of the union, Alhaji Saka Saula.

Nine persons, including the Chairman of Ogun State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Tajudeen Ibikunle, have been arraigned at a Yaba Magistrate's court for alleged involvement in the murder of chairman of Lagos Council of the union, Alhaji Saka Saula.

Saula was shot dead at his residence, in Iyana Ipaja, Lagos on January 6, 2008 by unknown assassins.

Apart from Ibikunle, other suspects docked for the same offence include Adeshina Ibrahim who is chairman, Oshodi branch of the union; Tajudeen Akanni, Yakubu Ojo, Kazeem Badmus, Fatai Akorede, Salami Saliu, Olusegun Fayomi and Olaitan Adefemi.

The accused were docked on a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder, punishable under Sections 324 and 319 of the Criminal Code Cap. C17 Vol. II Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
However, the accused's plea was not taken as the offence preferred against them could only be tried by the state High Court, which has jurisdiction to entertain such matter.

The court remanded the accused persons in prison custody, while fixing March 3, for next hearing.
