Senate president's wife flags-off free medical treatment in S'East


The wife of the Senate President, Dr. (Mrs) Rose-Marie Mark, has said that over 10,000 Nigerians have so far benefited from the ongoing free medical treatment program sponsored by Voluntary Promotive Intervention (VPI) in collaboration with ASO Savings and Loans

The wife of the Senate President, Dr. (Mrs) Rose-Marie Mark, has said that over 10,000 Nigerians have so far benefited from the ongoing free medical treatment program sponsored by Voluntary Promotive Intervention (VPI) in collaboration with ASO Savings and Loans.

Mrs Mark who disclosed this during a courtesy visit to His Royal Highness, Eze Albert Uwanamode, the Obizi of Ekenobizi Autonomous community, in Umuahia South Local Government of Abia State to flag-off the VPI/ASO free medical treatment in the state, stressed that what they were doing was simply touching lives of the people that needed to be touched and also to compliment the healthcare delivery efforts of the various governments.

She stated that VPI in collaboration with ASO Savings and Loans has taken root in Benue State and that since there were 36 states in the country, VPI/ASO has put in place a programme that ensures that all states are systematically covered as the programme rolls on.

She said the overall aim of the campaign is to support the efforts on the ground and at the same time draw attention to the poor hygiene that predisposes the less privileged to various ailment and seek ways of partnering with manufacturers of health and hygienic products so as to rescue the less privileged in the society.

According to her, the phase I of the VPI action plan covers training of the youths in the area of information technology (IT) to enable them collate the data collected in their area.
She also stated that 20 of the youths with exceptional aptitude for IT would be chosen for a one-week intensive course in IT with a specific attention in health data collection. This is to be used for health screening exercises. The phase II according to her covers health screening by volunteer doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians and medical scientists.

Dr. Mark, who called on the youths to get ready for a structured and well focused life as leaders of tomorrow, also disclosed that VPI/ASO Savings and the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) would begin the NDE school-on-wheels three months training cycle in Enugu for about 200 youths this month.

The training she announced would cover building trades like masonry/bricklaying, plumbing/pipe fitting, carpentry, painting/glazing, electrical installation and catering.
Responding, Eze Albert Uwanamode commended the spirit of Dr. Mark for thinking about the less privileged and going a step further by embarking on the extensive tour. According to the Eze, 'remembering people, going all out to touch the lives of the people you have never met simply shows how committed you are to what happens to others."
