There was a mournful atmosphere at the ikorodu home of late elderstatesman Otunba Theophilus Owolabi Shobowale Benson who died Wednesday in Lagos.
Female relations of the late popular politician and lawyer were seen yesterday evening seating under an almond tree - holding a meeting in the Benson Estate, Ikorodu, Lagos.
When Saturday sun sought to speak to them, a middle aged woman, said they were too grief stricken for words and directed our reporter to 'Uncle Tony"- Tos Benson's nephew. At a white bungalow residence of Uncle Tony, a lady told Saturday sun that the man wasn't feeling so well. 'He sleeping. He is not okay today. Go and come back tomorrow evening" she said.
But the man's younger brother, Adeyemi Bobby Benson, explained his elder's condition. 'Sorry about this", he said." Uncle Tony went to the dentist and pulled a tooth today. You know how it is, he must be in pain. He can't even open his mouth to talk now".
The 44- year- old musician and nephew of the late politician said.
He is yet to come to terms with his uncle's death. 'Though he began of late to tell us to learn how to deal with things and dropped pints of his death, I still don't want to believe that he is gone", he said.
Adeyemi's wife coincidentally delivered a baby boy on Wednesday night. 'It is strange, my wife was delivered of a baby boy just two hours after my uncle's death. People have already named the boy Tos Benson ." he said.
Though no condolence register has been opened in the estate, relations, friend, and well wishers have continued to gather there and discuss his life and times. The family will in the days ahead announce the plan for his burial. Saturday sun learnt he would be buried in his family estate in Ikorodu, Lagos.
