Barely seven days after a devastating inferno gutted four buildings in Imam Ligali Street on Lagos Island, another wild fire on Wednesday swept through three different areas of the Island, consuming eight buildings.

Different fire incidents at Binuyo Street, Iga Iduganran and Isale Eko area of the Island were said to have left properties worth several millions of naira in ruins.

The fire at Binuyo Street, was said to have been unwittingly started by one Azeez, who reportedly tried to switch on his generating set, while holding a lantern.
Before the arrival of fire-fighters, three buildings had been razed down, while belongings worth millions of naira were burnt to ashes.

A landlord, Sunday Adewuyi, who lives opposite the razed buildings said none of the tenants was able to pick a pin out of their homes.
Adewuyi said: 'Azeez was attempting to put on his generating set with a lantern when it sparked off the fire."

According to him, Azeez, with his wife and children quietly disappeared when it became obvious that the fire was beyond control.

He stated that before they could marshal help from youths, the fire had spread to other buildings. By the time sanity returned, three buildings were down, while another three were barely standing.
Although only one Jubril was said to have been hurt, residents of the razed buildings had tales of woes to narrate.

Mutairu Balogun, a tenant, said he had just collected his salary that Wednesday, but left all his money in the building while he dashed for safety.

Another tenant, Musibau, lamented that he had just moved into one of the apartments within the month after paying a whooping sum to the landlord and agent.

Mrs Monsuratu Oloto lamented: 'We lost everything. I was sleeping outside with my children when it happened. NEPA interrupted power supply. When I heard the noise and woke up, I just rushed for my three children and fled. 'This dress I'm wearing was given to me by sympathizers."
An elderly eyewitness, Mr Wasiu Mustapha, said fire-fighters were responsible for the heavy loss caused by the incident. According to him, fire-fighters complained of lack of water when they arrived the scene and when they finally decided to work, all their hoses were leaking.

Also razed was the building at 110, Iga Iduganran Street. Eyewitnesses said the top floor of the building had been destroyed in an earlier fire incident, but residents were still living on the first and second floors. The residents, however, denied that there was any fire outbreak, even though a trader insisted that there was one.

Daily Sun gathered that the residents' denial of a fire outbreak was due to fears that the Lagos State Government would take over the house.
A fire outbreak was also recorded at the Isale Eko area of the Island, with property valued at thousands of naira destroyed.
