Daboh accuses Akume of threatening his life

The out-going Assistant National Auditor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a chieftain of the party in Benue State, Chief Godwin Daboh, has dragged former Benue State governor, Senator George Akume, before Inspector General of Police (IGP), accusing him of threatening to kill him.

In a swift reaction, an aide of Senator Akume dismissed the allegation, describing it as blackmail.
In a petition to the IGP, Mike Okiro, dated February 13, signed by one Akor Yaaya of A.A Yaaya and Co, acting on behalf of Daboh, and which was copied President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua and the Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswan, a copy of which was made available to Daily Sun on Thursday in Abuja, the petitioner alleged that he, alongside another Benue indigene of Tiv origin, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, received a text message from one Peter, warning him to distance himself from Tsav. He, however, said he disregarded the text message, as he did not take it seriously.

From then on, Dabo said that he received over 10 threatening calls from an anonymous caller, who hid his identification number, though he easily recognized the voice as that of Senator Akume, since he was familiar with the voice.

Daboh said the picture became clearer when he read a full page advertorial placed by some politicians from Benue State, but who were obviously Akume's sympathizers, making reference to the press conference he earlier addressed.

To buttress his claims, he reproduced the series of text messages he claimed were sent to him by the anonymous caller. One of the messages reads: 'Do u know u are not qualified 2 fight corruption? Bcus u are morally and financially corrupt urself. U are a problem 2 D Benue & Nigerian society. Pls repent for it is not late 2 do so. U bite fingers dat feed u, 2 bad! U are dirty & so u fight. Be ready 4 dirty fight also I think a curse is placed on u otherwise why do you do certain things u do @ ur age. Pls change. Hope 2 reach u again."

While claiming that he has till date not benefited anything from Senator Akume even while he held sway as governor for eight years, Daboh further alleged that Akume was after his life simply because he has decided to pitch his tent with the Senate President, Senator David Mark, whom Daboh further alleged Akume has been trying to unseat as Senate President.
