The much-touted $1m prize for the Best African Artiste at the KORA All Africa Music Awards holding in Tinapa, Cross River State on Saturday, December 6, 2008 has been sponsored by First Bank Plc.
The much-touted $1m prize for the Best African Artiste at the KORA All Africa Music Awards holding in Tinapa, Cross River State on Saturday, December 6, 2008 has been sponsored by First Bank Plc.
This was disclosed by Mr. Alex C. Otti, executive director, First Bank Plc., who represented the Managing Director, Mr. Mayo Ajekigbe at the KORA Awards 2008 world press conference which held on Tuesday at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Mr. Otti explained that the winner of the prize will be presented with one million dollar cheque from First Bank Plc.
He said: 'First Bank is supporting KORA Awards to promote the African culture and contribute its quota in the development of African music. This is the reason we are sponsoring the $1m prize for the Best African Artiste or Group."
The President and Executive Producer of KORA Awards, Mr. Ernest Coovi Adjovi, however, stated that the winner of the Best African Artiste award will be determined from four regions including East Africa, Central Africa, Southern Africa and West Africa.
'We call on all genuine lovers of Africa to come up with suggestions, ideas and concrete support that will continue to keep this dream alive. We do not claim to know it all alone or have all the answers. Our commitment and unalloyed penchant for excellence, professionalism, patriotism can only be made more meaningful with your support," Adjovi said.
The Managing Director, Cross River State Tourism Bureau, Mr. Nzan Ogbe, representing Governor Liyel Imoke stated that KORA Awards has found a home in Calabar because of her clean and serene environment characterized by world class tourist sites.
The entries for the awards open on February 15 and close on April 15, 2008. For participants, entry forms are available on www.koraawards.com or www.koraawards.org.
