Oba of Lagos, Rilwanu Akiolu will lead a 20-man eminent Lagosians for a meeting with President Umaru Yar’Adua in Abuja, today (Monday) to discuss what a member of the delegation described as “injustice to Lagos.”

The high-power delegation which left Lagos yesterday (Sunday) is expected to meet with the president with some other top government functionaries at 11am.

First civilian governor of the state, Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande, who is also a member of the 20-man team told Daily Sun in his Ilupeju residence, Saturday that “the Oba is of the view that injustice is being done to Lagos in respect of Federal Government properties in the state. He wrote a letter to Mr President on the position of Lagos and he has called for a meeting in Abuja at 11am Monday.”

Jakande further revealed that “if government is selling its property to any one who wants it, the contention of the Oba, which of course I tollaly agree with is that the land on which these properties sit belong to Lagos State and so, the land should be returned to us, the original owners. This land was given to the Federal Government for the public good. Once the Federal Government ceases to use the land for that purpose, of course, it should be returned to us.”

The state governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola is however not part of the delegation.
According to Jakande, “the governor will stay behind to keep watch over the house.”
He listed some of these prime properties to include the 1004 flats on Victoria Island and the federal Secretariat buildings at Ikoyi. These properties were sold to the highest bidders by the Federal Government in 2007 but they are yet to take full possession as the controversial sale remain a subject of litigation.
