PDP may sack 180 staff

There are indications that some 180 staff of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] may be sacked.

There are indications that some 180 staff of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] may be sacked. This is coming barely one month to the end of the tenure of the current National Working Committee.

Also to be affected, Daily Sun learnt are some staff of the Peoples Democratic Institute [PDI].
If the plan works out, it may well be National Chairman, Amadu Ali's parting gift to workers of the party, who said they have been loyal to his NWC leadership.

As at the time of this report, some of the workers said they are scared of the fate that will befall them.
Daily Sun gathered that the planned sack was as a result of the party's inability to pay a backlog of workers allowances which have risen to about N58million. It was gathered that in November 2007 there were plans to pay the allowances but Ali reportedly refused to sign a memo to authorize the payment, saying that the money will be paid in the 2008 fiscal year.

But with his tenure drawing to a close and action is yet to be taken on the matter, some staff, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Daily Sun that their renewed agitation for payment of their allowances has earned them threat of sack.

Some of the workers are particularly angry with the party's decision to put about one billion naira into building the party's secretariat while telling the workers that there is no money.
Sources said the administrative department has already been instructed to 'compile names of staffers and look into their files."

When confronted on phone, party scribe, Benard Eze, simply said 'I have nothing yet on that, no decision has been taken on it."
