Just as efforts were being made to secure the release of Mrs. Seinye Lulu-Briggs, wife of oil magnate, Chief Benson Lulu-Briggs, unidentified gunmen abducted a former lecturer of the University of Port Harcourt Prof. Christian Anah.
Just as efforts were being made to secure the release of Mrs. Seinye Lulu-Briggs, wife of oil magnate, Chief Benson Lulu-Briggs, unidentified gunmen abducted a former lecturer of the University of Port Harcourt Prof. Christian Anah.
The former don was whisked away from his home at Nkpolu/Rumuigbo, a suburb of Port Harcourt on Thursday evening. Anah, a former provost of the School of Medical Sciences of the university, retired last year.
Although details on how the abduction took place could not be obtained as at press time, UNIPORT's Deputy Registrar in charge of Information, Mr. William Wodi, confirmed the attack.
Wodi described the action as a big surprise to the university community.
He said, 'Although he is no longer in the service of the university, he is still one of us and one of the best that we ever had."
The university's PRO could not however say whether the kidnappers have made contact with members of the former lecturer's family.
Attempts to speak to the spokesman of the Joint Task Force in the state, Lt. Col. Sagir Musa and the Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Ireju Barasua, failed as call to their telephones could not go through.
