Officialdom was thrown to the winds recently when a mobile police corporal who was on duty was allegedly abducted by some Naval officers in the banking hall of a commercial bank , in Warri, oil city of Delta State.
Daily Sun gathered that trouble started when a plain cloth naval officer, (names withheld), was said to be making a call within the banking hall when a policeman on duty approached him politely, asking him to switch off his cell phone.
The naval officer however took offence and hurried out after a hot argument with the police officer. He was alleged to have later returned with some of his colleagues with whom he invaded the bank premises and bundled the policeman to the Warri Naval base .
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Charles Muka, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) who confirmed the report said the affected police officer had been released by his abductors .
In another development, the state police command has smashed a four man gang of armed robbers who have been terrorizing Asaba the state capital, killing one of them.
One of the suspects identified as Chijioke Nnaji, according to the police was shot dead when the gang was intercepted at Umuagu quarters in Asaba. According to the police at about 22:35 hours, the police received information that a four man gang was robbing people. A police team from ‘A' division, Asaba went after the robbers in an unmarked vehicle and intercepted the gang at Umuagu quarters , Asaba.
The robbers on sighting the police opened fire on them and in the ensuing gun duel, one of the robbers was gunned down while the others escaped with bullet wounds. Items recovered from them include one locally expended cartridge, three live cartridge, one national driving license, an ATM card, 100 dollar note and N4,430.
Meanwhile, luck ran out of one Lawrence Ogabi and three others now at large who threatened a provision store operator in Agbor with a gun and demanded money.
Daily Sun gathered that the said Lawrence had come with armed robbers to the shop and after drinking , one of them followed the shop owner into his store asking him to give them the money he made from the day's sales while the others kept watch outside .
The sister of the shop owner who was watching outside raised an alarm which alerted the police who arrived the scene and arrested the suspect.
The police however recovered a cut-to-size single barrel pistol and one live cartridge from the hoodlums.
