PDP, AC trade tackles over call for military intervention in Ekiti

The threat by Senior Special Adviser to Governor Segun Oni on Politics and Strategy, Ben Oguntuase, to deal ruthlessly with some opposition groups which allegedly planned to destabilise Ekiti State, has begun to generate reactions with the Action Congress (AC) alleging that a detachment of the military would soon arrive the state on the invitation of the state governor.

A statement signed by Yemi Adaramodu, the AC spokesperson alleged that the 'PDP-led government in Ekiti State, is becoming more and more desperate by the day, inventing all forms of guerilla tactics for survival. The latest in its bag of tricks and chicanery is to induce civil disorder which would lead to the breakdown of law and order and a consequent declaration of another State of Emergency in the state."

The statement further alleged that the Ekiti State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice has written to the military command in Ondo State to provide security in the Government House, governor's office, court premises and around government properties in the state.

According to the statement, 'As a prelude to achieving this nefarious and anti people's end, the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice had written to an army formation in neighbouring Ondo State requesting for soldiers to guard the government house, court premises, governors office, the state secretariat and other government buildings."

The statement, however, expressed fear that the state may be engulfed in crisis again if the plot went through.
'The plan, if they succeed, is to create confusion which will necessitate the use of soldiers to unleash terror on Ekiti people and the consequent confusion would automatically usher in another emergency rule.
'There is absolutely no justifiable reason for the letter of the Attorney General requesting for soldiers to come and take charge in Ekiti. The state is not in war of any kind and there is no breakdown of law and order," the statement further said.

While reacting to the allegation, Senior Special Adviser to the governor on Media and Communications, Moses Jolayemi, described the claim as one of the lies being told by AC.
Jolayemi said: 'They have also said that the government is planning to bring soldiers into the state because 'it has been overwhelmed by the rate of violence in the state."

These, like every other lies that had been told by the AC cannot but remain in their Bible of propaganda, which we have said so many times that we are not capable of doing better than them."
However, AC appealed to the Federal Government not to grant the request to draft military personnel to the state.
'We appeal to President Yar'Adua not to succumb to the antics of the PDP government in Ekiti by granting their request of drafting soldiers needlessly to state again.
'We are peace loving in Ekiti and we say categorically that we don't want soldiers in Ekiti again under any guise. Ekiti people would resist any arm-twisting tactics of subverting the will of the people," the statement added.
