For more than 15 years, he lived with his family in the United States of America and a few years ago, retired from the American oil company, Chevron, as a Manager.

Last year, 76-year-old Dr. Ogbonnaya Onyewumbo felt it was time to return to Nigeria and re-unite with his kit and kin in his country-home, Azumiri-Umukabia in Ohuhu, near Umuahia, Abia State. That singular decision has turned out tragic for Pa Onyewumbo who had been ordained a Bishop in his Church abroad .

Precisely on November 4, last years, some gun-totting youths allegedly in search of the dollars, invaded his residence and shot him in his bedroom. He died before help could come.
Up untill now, details of what transpired between them and what was taken from him remain unknown.

'We are unable to tell exactly what they took away because he was the only one in that flat when the killers struck.
'All we can say for now is that they took away his handset. They did not take his car and we cannot tell how much money was stolen," said Mr. Ogbonna Onyewumbo, a Port Harcourt-based son of the deceased who spoke with Sunday Sun recently.
Thanks to the agility of the police detectives in the state who investigated the apparent cold blood murder, some of the suspects have been rounded up and put in custody.

On interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to the crime and named one Emeka (surname withheld), a native of a neighbouring village who is now at large, as their ring leader.
While the bereaved family members still mourn their loss, the fear that the fleeing ring leader could be up to some evil, has gripped them.

'The boy at large is from a nearby village. We are worried over our safety because it is possible he knows us but we don't know him", said the younger Onyewumbo.
Although the police suspect robbery as the main motive of the killing, the Onyewumbos would want the run-away leader of the gang arrested before conclusions are made, if only to ensure that the end of what has become a lingering nightmare.

Following hints that the wanted suspect who fled home with his family including his father, was sited outside the state, they urged that the dragnet should be spread beyond Abia State.
