It was a tragic end for a father of four in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital as he took his own life by committing suicide. Mr. Abdeen Alabi, 42, was found dead in his room in Sokori area of the state capital about 2.00 p.m. on Tuesday after a business transaction.
Although he did not leave behind a suicide note, Daily Sun learnt that 'Baba Azeez," as he was fondly called, decided to take his life after he was allegedly duped during a business transaction.
Abdeen, a welder, was said to have helped someone to sell off a Honda Accord car, but was issued a dud bank draft by the purchaser of the car which he allegedly sold for N850,000.00
It was after the late Abdeen presented the 'bank draft" to a commercial bank that he was told that the bank instrument was fake.
A source close to the late artisan further revealed that he returned home only to purchase a rope with which he used to hang himself after he went inside his room where he later committed the criminal act. 'We were all shocked by his deadly action and pray God to have mercy on him," a co-tenant told Daily Sun yesterday.
The lifeless body of 'Baba Azeez", which was hanging from a ceiling fan in his apartment, was said to have been discovered by his wife, a petty trader whose wailing attracted neighbours and co-tenants to their apartment.
As at 3.00p.m. yesterday, scores of sympathizers had thronged their Sokori residence, expressing with disbelief, and lamenting the death, wondering why the late welder decided to take his own life on a matter that could have been better resolved, even if it meant paying for the car the rest of his life.
'It's sad and shocking. We never knew that he could do such a thing. He was such a gentle man who never involved himself in any shady deal before. I think he did what he did to save his life and that of his family. It is highly regrettable," a co-tenant who pleaded anonymity told Daily Sun.
