Anambra State governor, Mr Peter Obi, has directed all contractors working on government projects in the state to go back to their sites as Christmas and New Year holidays are over. He also advised the contractors to use this period of dry season to make progress in road construction in the state.

Obi spoke on Tuesday, while paying about N2 billion to various contractors working in the state. He warned those that fell short of specifications to correct their various jobs or face the wrath of the government.
"Our inspection of some roads show that they are below expectations. Let all the contractors, whose work are below contractual qualities, go back and correct the deficiencies or face the consequences. We ask nothing less than Berger's standards, for that is what we pay for," he said.
Obi also said contractors, especially those working on roads, should give the state government five years guarantee or seven years in case of those who are constructing stone-based roads. He insisted that the government did not pay sub-standard money and would not tolerate sub-standard work.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Works, Mr Callistus Ilozumba, said the state government would closely follow the progress of work at the various sites to make sure that Anambra people got value for their money.
Thanking the governor on behalf of the contractors, Victor Diatch of the RCC gave assurance that they would continue to deliver on quality. He particularly expressed his profound gratitude to the governor for having the money to pay in January, even when the budget had not been passed.
Speaking to journalists later, one of the contractors, Engr. Daniel Nkwonta, gave assurance that they would reciprocate the governor's gestures by speeding up work at their various sites.
A prominent citizen of Anambra State, who witnessed the occasion, Chief Jerome Akude, thanked Governor Obi for his focus and sense of direction and appealed to members of the state's House of Assembly to pass the budget as its non-passage was affecting the execution of projects linedup by the governor for the good of the state.
