The Lagos State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a Ghanian woman and her son over illegal dealing in Indian hemp.
The woman and her son were arrested Friday when her husband, Charles Ugochukwu who is also the main suspect fled their Iba home to Ibadan.

Recovered from them 247 bags of Indian hemp contained in weighing 13.7 tonnes. The suspect, was said to be off to Ibadan to see his brother who lost a child.
The arrest followed a tip off on the illegal activities taking place in a residence at Iba.

The Lagos State Commander, NDLEA, Mr Wesley Midala, said that the arrest was as a result of a trail which had been launched on the suspect.

``We have been working on a drug baron who specializes in cannabis. We knew he was in his house. My men moved on the residence at about 4.00a.m for the operation.

Unfortunately before they got there, the man had left because by what his wife said, she said his brother in Ibadan lost a child, so he went to see him. By the time my boys got there, he had travelled. We were able to arrest the wife and son and they are in our custody".

The NDLEA chief reiterated that the agency had been on the trail of Ugochukwu since December 2007, adding that the suspect's wife had confirmed during interrogation that the drug came in around that period from Ondo State, which is notorious for the cultivation of the dangerous weeds.
