Obasanjo's probe: Group tasks AGF

A political pressure group, Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders (CACOL) has described as a blatant lie a statement credited to the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Mr Michael Aondoakaa (SAN) that there were no petitions against former President Olusegun Obasanjo that could have warranted his probe.

Chairman of the group, Mr Debo Adeniran who described the statement further as a proof of incompetence on the part of the AGF stated that 'it was public knowledge that our group, Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders (CACOL) submitted petitions against Obasanjo to both EFCC and the ICPC" wondering if these anti-graft bodies are no government agencies."

'We submitted a petition each to the EFCC on November 14, 2007 and to the ICPC on December 12, 2007," Adeniran reminded saying 'except the AGF is saying that these institutions are not government agencies".

Besides, the CACOL boss wondered why the AGF should wait for petitions before acting in the best interest of the people by verifying government spending, just as he expressed sadness over the AGF's ignorance of the goings on in both the EFCC and the ICPC, asserting that such an attitude could be interpreted to be incompetence or dereliction of duty which he described as 'sad, regrettable and very unfortunate."

The activist therefore charged Aondoakaa to always keep in touch with the two anti-graft bodies, saying 'by doing so, he will be abreast of goings on within the agencies."
