Ribadu's redeployment in order -TSAV

Former Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav has disagreed with some Nigerians currently opposed to the redeployment of the former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,(EFCC) Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, who has been asked to proceed on course.

In an interview with Daily Sun, in Kano, Tsav said that there was nothing wrong with former anti-crime boss being asked to proceed on course at the Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, adding that he agreed with the position that the latest assignment was purely routine and was designed to prepare him (Ribadu) for greater responsibilities in the service of the nation.

While appreciating the fact that the former anti-craft boss was doing a good job in his position as the head of the EFCC, Tsav, however, maintained that any other Nigerian with the qualification for the position can be assigned to the task. He then asked those condemning the posting, 'What happens if Ribadu dies? Will the EFCC Act be abrogated?"

Given the worry that the organization may be weakened in the absence of a strong character and person of integrity like Ribadu, he assured that there are many honest Nigerians, who are waiting in the wings to take over from the former EFCC boss.

He, however, expressed worry that chances are that the right person may not be appointed to the position, noting the tendency for other influences to come to play in this kind of placements and appointments in the country.

Tsav also spoke on the petition he sent since 2002, to the Independent and Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), against the former governor of Benue State, Chief George Akume.

He said that he is not excited that it is only now that the commission is deeming it fit to raise the matter with the former governor, adding that given the span of time in between, some vital witnesses and evidences may have been tampered with or influenced , while adding that the fight against corruption in the country has not been fought with all honesty.
