The Oodua People's Congress (OPC) has berated Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Mike Okiro for portraying the group in bad light in his recent comment.

National Coordinator of the group, Otunba Gani Adams in a statement condemned the IGP's reference to his group as crude and describing the comment as derogatory.

Adams particularly condemned the aspect of the report that portrayed the organization as murders who would kill suspects whether they were guilty or not, denying that "there has never been any reported case of OPC's involvement in any issue between landlords and tenants which resulted into death of either party or both at any given time."

The OPC boss was reacting to a report where the IGP was quoted to have said that "people would prefer to lodge various complaints, some of which are flimsy like tenants-landlord stand-off to the OPC because people always get instant judgement which comes in likes of the organization killing the suspects whether such suspect is guilty or not."

While exonerating his organization, Adams stated that, "in accordance with the constitution of the organization, the OPC is not meant to be a security outfit but a purely socio-cultural organization formed to protect and defend the collective interest of the Youruba nation as well as promoting and sustaining her culture universally."

However, Adams admitted that when Nigerians especially from the South-west called on the OPC to help out when insecurity reached disturbing dimension and the police failed to address it, the group moved in and restored peace and sanity.

Adams who warned the IGP against such statement in the future said, "his statement constitutes a dent to our organization" advising the IGP to "desist from using such statements as they do not represent our organizations in good light."
