A former chairman of Bonny Local Government in Rivers State, Chief Rutherford Long-John and three other persons escaped death by the whiskers late Wednesday night when unidentified gun men invaded his home.
The four wounded persons including a lady identified as Rashidat Fakorode, are receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital. However, one of them, Mr. Lawrence Jombo, a special adviser on Youth Affairs in the Bonny Local Government Council was said to be in critical condition. Checks by Daily Sun revealed that he was shot in the stomach by the invading gang.
It was gathered that the gun men attacked the former council chairman and his quests at his country home in Abalamabire in Bonny Local Government Area of the state.
The gun men, who sources said, came in a speedboat arrived the village at about 9.30p.m and went straight into the residence of the ex-council boss after which, they started shouting, 'where is our money?"
Apparently angered by the man's failure to produce the money they had demanded, the gang opened fire and shot Chief Long John and two of his visitors on their thighs and shot the special adviser in the stomach. No group had claimed responsibility as at press time. Police sources hinted that the hunt for the gang has begun.
