Pregnant woman arrested with cocaine

Narcotic agents at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos have arrested a pregnant woman and mother of one, Olayemi Olawunmi Olajumoke with 484 grammes of cocaine concealed in her luggage.

Narcotic agents at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos have arrested a pregnant woman and mother of one, Olayemi Olawunmi Olajumoke with 484 grammes of cocaine concealed in her luggage.

The 37-year-old woman was last Saturday nabbed at about 2p.m during the screening of passengers on an Emirate flight to Bombay, India by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

According to Ofoyeju Mitchell, public affairs officer of the NDLEA, the cocaine was carefully concealed in the inner lining of a skirt inside the woman's luggage.
The suspect, who lives at 30, Ogundele Street, Oke-Afa, Isolo, Lagos and hails from Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State, told the NDLEA that the drugs were given to her by a certain Akin. According to the suspect, a Nigerian she met in India had called to tell her that Akin would send a parcel through her to him.
But according to the NDLEA spokesman, the use of lining in drug concealment in clothes is not new. 'Several seizures have been made in the past," he said.

'Akin called me at the airport and gave me the clothes inside black polythene bag. I immediately kept it on my armpit. I later kept it in my luggage. During search, it was discovered to contain cocaine. I did not know that it contains hard drug," the suspect reportedly told the NDLEA.

Another drug trafficker, Kazeem Aremu Oladekun, 31 years, excreted 82 wraps of cocaine, weighing 1.159 kilogramme. The 31-year-old man was arrested on December 30, 2007 at about 11 am during the boarding of passengers on Ethiopian Airways flight to Bombay, India.

The suspected drug dealer blamed his woes on the Nigerian Customs Service for seizing his contraband goods at the Nigerian Airways Cargo Handling Company (NAHCO) in 2005. He said that one Rasheed lured him into drug trafficking by giving him money and calling him regularly.

'He first gave me N35,000 and on another occasion he gave me 200 dollars. He promised to pay me 3,500 Euro for the trip," the suspect confessed.
Kazeem also added that his travel expenses were paid by his sponsors. The cases are under investigation while the suspects will soon be charged to court, according to the NDLEA.
