Lam's son petitions police, SSS over threat to life

Adedapo, son of former governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Lamidi Adesina, has petitioned Oyo State Commissioner of Police and Director, State Security Services (SSS) over alleged threats to his life by people believed to be political opponents of his father.

Adedapo, son of former governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Lamidi Adesina, has petitioned Oyo State Commissioner of Police and Director, State Security Services (SSS) over alleged threats to his life by people believed to be political opponents of his father.

Adedapo, who recently barred strongman of Ibadan politics, Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu, the state governor, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala and his deputy, Hon Taofeek Arapaja, from his father's house, stated that he has been receiving strange calls on his mobile phone numbers since he had a face-off with the deputy-governor during the December 15 election.

In his letter dated December 24, 2007 and made available to media houses in Ibadan on Wednesday, Adedapo told the security agencies that he also had a confrontation with Senator Kamoru Adedibu, the son of Alhaji Adedibu on December 17.
'I want to use this medium to bring to your notice that in the past few days, I have been receiving calls from unknown people threatening me over the phone.

'I am not pointing accusing fingers at anybody but anything that has to do with one's life must not be taken with levity. Sir, it might just be sensible to report that on December 15, 2007, while the local government elections were going on, I had a face-off with the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Hon. Taofeek Arapaja when he came to my father's house and I denied him entrance," Adedapo stated in his petition.

He explained that he denied the deputy-governor entrance into his father's house because of the activities of suspected political thugs who beat up some agents of the Action Congress (AC) at the polling centres within Felele area, some of whom were brought to his father's house before the arrival of the deputy-governor, who also resides in the area.

Two days later, he said Senator Adedibu had come with a truck load of rams ostensibly to give to his father as Sallah gift, which he kicked against by denying the lawmaker opportunity to see his father too.
He stated that during the face-off with the Senator, a particular Afeez came out from a spare car accompanying the senator to threaten him before security guards and some of his (Adedapo) friends intervened and came to his rescue.

He, nonetheless, pointed out that before Adedibu's son left their house on the fateful day, he said the lawmaker threatened ‘to catch up with me and deal with me'.
