The son of a local government chairman who refused to join a cult has blown the lid off the nefarious activities of the sect.
The boy, a student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Ondo State, had reported to his father, who is a council boss in Akure that the cult had been giving him sleepless nights. And this prompted the father to report to the police.
Daily Sun gathered that the police in Akungba town stormed the school and arrested six leaders of the newly formed cult popularly known as: ‘The Big Boys'.
According to the state police spokesman, Mr. Usman Adeniran (ASP), who conducted a parade of the suspects at the Police Headquarters, Igbatoro, the suspected cultists were picked at different locations, shortly after they left a hideout where they held a meeting for over three hours.
He said: 'Acting on a tip-off, we swung into action to arrest the suspected cultists at their meeting ground. We however did not meet them at the venue as they had left for another location, when they suspected that we were trailing them.
'We went to the hostel of the gang leader, Toyin Adewale and arrested him. He led us to where his defiant comrades were relaxing. Among the items recovered from them were knives, a hammer, charms and other dangerous weapons. The gang had been terrorising some students to join them. Some students even joined out of fear and those that proved stubborn were dealt with."
The suspects however, denied being cultists. They said: 'The chairman is only out to dent our image because we were at loggerheads with his son over his unruly behaviour."
